I have a handful of interests that play out in everything:

Industry disruptions: Whether contemporary ceramic studios or nonlinear editing, videogames, social networks, or consumer GPS... I thrive when circumstances are starting to change (usually, but not always, due to technology) and a new thing can emerge. Pretty much all my jobs have been about this.

DIY: I like doing many creative tasks myself, rather than getting a professional, even knowing it'll usually be better if I get an expert. The birth of the Macintosh catalyzed this position; it was literally a prosthetic device that allowed me to do things that I otherwise would never have been able to handle: logos, graphics, books, bookkeeping, videos, start-ups...

Guerrilla Marketing: Part of DIY, coming up with interesting (and inexpensive) ways to stand-out in a crowded field is fun. From my college application to promoting 'Gardening' to PlaceBook... and an arry of early viral videos and content over the years.

Consumer Experiences: Or what was first called "participatory retail" in the early '90s, I enjoy making interactions that are worthy. Over the years people have come to realize bricks-and-mortar retail has to be different from online shopping.

Brand Building: It's a hobby.

Archiving and Documenting: It's a pathology. I'm nostalgic, and always the guy journaling, documenting, photographing, organizing, saving. I collected stamps, then photographs. And all kinds of other ridiculous things.

Teaching: It's not enough to do something, it's also important to teach others. Obviously it's a family thing; we've all been teachers and made different kinds of textbooks. My dad taught ophthalmologists, my brother screenwriters, my sister families with foster kids.... and I've taught video editing in my early career, and photography these days.
