painting being sold for millions is not a defense of painting; it actually could mean it's just very rare... listen -- did the invention of the gun "kill" archery? yes. It utterly and completely changed the importance, use, and meaning of archery. Do you still defend your country or home with archery? Do you hunt for food with archery? "Dead" doesn't mean it's wiped off the earth -- that would be stupid and insane -- Dead means it no long has the utility or meaning or value. Of course there's still interest in oil painting, archery, and now photography. It stil exists. It might even increase in value in some respects (as a rarity or curiosity, for example). It's not GONE, it's just utterly and completely changed in what it's for, how important it is, what its utility is.
