M.H. RUBIN TO DELIVER OPENING KEYNOTE AT FOTOCLAVE 2024 PHOTOGRAPHY CONFERENCE

Photographer and Author to Introduce “Photographic Haiku” Principles

San Ramon, CA — The Northern California Council of Camera Clubs (N4C) announced that M.H. Rubin would be the opening keynote speaker at the prestigious FotoClave 2024 conference, set to be held over President’s Day weekend at the Marriott Hotel in San Ramon, CA. Rubin, an accomplished photographer, collector, and author, will present “The Photograph as Haiku,” promising to offer fresh insights into the art of photography.

Rubin’s keynote will introduce the concept of “photographic haiku,” a novel approach to photography that finds commonalities in the great photos of history with the principles of the traditional Japanese form of poetry. His unique perspective is anticipated to set the tone for a weekend filled with inspiration and education for photography enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Joining Rubin in the lineup of distinguished speakers are photography luminaries Frans Lanting and Scott Kelby.

Rubin has been developing these ideas for the past three years with the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. In 2023 he gave the first public presentations on the topic, for The Royal Photographic Society, Adobe Research, The Dent Conference, and the Upaya Zen Center’s Haiku Festival. His book “The Photograph as Haiku” has been lauded both in haiku poetry circles as well as by photographic community.

Nicholas Klacsanzky, in his book review in the haiku journal Frogpond, said “This is a pivotal book in the realm of photography and haiku… it’s both a page-turner and a space to contemplate… I can foresee reading this book again and again, as its insights are often transformative.”

For the two weeks leading up to the keynote, Rubin will be releasing the fundamental principles of haiku (and photography) on social media:
